Flax Seeds
Marco Viti
For constipation, rich in omega 3.
Flax seeds, upon contact with water in the stomach, form a type of mucilage that softens the stool and increases its volume.
This increase stimulates peristalsis, which is the expulsion of stool by the intestine.
Since it is more of an emollient than a laxative, a sort of facilitator for the passage of stool, it can be used frequently.
It also helps to soothe irritated mucous membranes, perhaps from the use of too many laxatives.
How to use
Alongside a fiber-rich diet and constant physical activity, these reddish-brown seeds, 4-5 mm long, aid defecation. There are two recipes.
The first involves taking 4 or 5 teaspoons of seeds, crushing them, letting them soak for twenty minutes, then filtering the drink and consuming it.
The second option, suitable for those on a diet (the seeds have a high caloric intake, 470 calories per hundred grams) involves ingesting a couple of tablespoons of seeds, followed by a glass or two of water. The seeds will pass through the intestine, increasing in volume and releasing emollient substances, but will exit intact. This way, the fats they are rich in will not be absorbed by the intestine.
Warnings
Flax seeds have no interactions with other medications.
The main side effect is possible flatulence.
However, experts advise against using them in children under six years of age and when suffering from intestinal obstruction and narrowing of the esophagus.
Format
200 g pack.
