Buying online is an opportunity that offers many advantages: you can easily find what you're looking for, often at a convenient price, and you can do it whenever you want (evening, weekend, whenever you have time) from wherever you are (home, office, on vacation, etc.) without having to travel;
To take advantage of these opportunities without incurring fraud risks, simply follow some basic precautionary measures listed below.
1. VERIFY THE SELLER'S ACTUAL EXISTENCE
In the case of an online pharmacy, verify that there is actually a pharmacy behind the website.
Today, with tools like Google Maps, it's almost always possible to take a virtual tour of the physical location. If you have any doubts, call the physical store. Also check for the presence of a VAT number; it's usually in the footer of websites.
2. CHECK PAYMENT METHODS
Check the payment methods accepted by the seller. These are usually found in the "payments" section of the website.
Credit card payment is the simplest and most common for online purchases;
verify that the online store uses secure connections (https://...) during the payment data transmission phase.
Payment with credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, PostePay and also prepaid cards) through Stripe is one of the most common and secure methods.
Some sellers also offer cash on delivery. This method offers maximum peace of mind because you only pay upon delivery.
However, it is penalized by delivery inconveniences (someone must be home to pay for the goods upon delivery) and is usually also penalized by additional costs.
3. CHECK SHIPPING TIMES AND METHODS
Check the shipping methods and times in the dedicated section of the website.
Normally, shipments are made via express courier, and delivery times for various areas of Italy are declared.
Check that the courier/s used are declared. Some websites allow you to track the shipping process online.
4. CHECK PURCHASE WARRANTY
Check the warranty conditions and how to obtain them. Normally, goods are guaranteed by the manufacturer, but more serious sellers directly replace the product if faults or malfunctions occur immediately after delivery.
Check that the seller provides a valid proof of purchase (receipt or invoice), which is required to claim warranty coverage.
5. RIGHT OF WITHDRAWAL
The right of withdrawal is also guaranteed for online purchases.
Check how to exercise the right of withdrawal by reading the "withdrawal" page, which normally provides information on the conditions and procedures for withdrawal.
Remember that withdrawal normally provides for reimbursement of the value of the goods but not of additional services (transport, insurance, cash on delivery, etc.).
