Dermocortal 5 mg/g cream
Hydrocortisone
What it is and what it is used for
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days.
Dermocortal contains the active ingredient hydrocortisone, which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. Hydrocortisone helps to reduce local inflammation, swelling and itching.
This medicine is used in the treatment of:
- insect bites;
- localised itching or burns;
- skin inflammation (eczema);
- skin redness (erythema).
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Dermocortal
- if you are allergic to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have an infection caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Dermocortal.
Do not use this medicine:
- On the eyes or in the area around the eyes.
- For the treatment of vaginal itching in the presence of vaginal discharge.
- For prolonged treatments and on extensive skin surfaces; after a short period of treatment, if you do not notice appreciable results, consult your doctor. The use, especially if prolonged, of products for cutaneous (topical) use can give rise to sensitisation phenomena (excessive reaction of the body to foreign substances with which it has come into contact). In this case, stop the treatment and consult your doctor to start suitable therapy (see paragraph 3 “If you use more Dermocortal than you should”).
Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
Children
In children under 2 years of age, the product should be administered only if strictly necessary and under direct medical supervision. Consult your doctor before using Dermocortal in children under 2 years of age.
This medicine is for external use only.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Blurred vision with unknown frequency. Compliance with the instructions contained in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
