DIARSTOP 1.5 mg hard capsules
Loperamide hydrochloride

What it is and what it is used for
DIARSTOP is an antidiarrheal, used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea, capable of slowing down intestinal motility. Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a two-day treatment period.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take DIARSTOP
- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see section "Pregnancy and breastfeeding").
- If you need to maintain normal bowel motility.

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking DIARSTOP, even if acute diarrhea has occurred in the past. Since diarrhea can cause a significant loss of fluids and salts, it is advisable to drink plenty of fluids to replenish losses. It may be useful to take aqueous solutions based on sugar and salts.
Do not take this medicine for uses other than those intended (see section 1) and never take a dose higher than recommended (see section 3). Severe heart problems (with symptoms including rapid or irregular heartbeat) have been reported in patients who have taken an overdose of loperamide, the active ingredient of DIARSTOP.

Children
DIARSTOP should not be given to children under 12 years of age.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, DIARSTOP can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Mild abdominal pain and dry mouth have been rarely reported.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data): upper abdominal pain, abdominal pain radiating to the back, tenderness to the touch of the abdomen, fever, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, which may be symptoms of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis).
If you experience any of these symptoms, stop using the medicine and consult your doctor immediately.

Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.

Reporting of side effects
If you get any side effects, including any not listed in this leaflet, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects directly via the national reporting system at: https://www.aifa.gov.it/content/segnalazionireazioni-avverse.
By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
