Diathynil 5 mg tablets
D(+) biotin

What it is and what it is used for
Diathynil contains the active ingredient D(+) biotin. D(+) biotin is a B vitamin essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and purines.

Diathynil is indicated for the treatment of skin conditions that cause excessive sebum production or desquamation.

Indications in adults:
• skin inflammation characterized by slight redness, scales, and patches in various areas of the body (seborrheic dermatitis);
• acne;
• hair loss of various types (alopecia).

Indications in children:
• localized skin inflammations:
- diaper rash
- redness in skin folds
- cradle cap
• generalized skin inflammations:
- diffuse and persistent redness of the skin, often with desquamation, typical of infants (Leiner-Moussous syndrome, also known as desquamative erythroderma of the infant)
• diseases related to vitamin deficiency
- inflammation of the tongue with digestive problems

Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take Diathynil
• if you are allergic to D(+) biotin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Diathynil.

During treatment with Diathynil, you should not eat raw egg whites, as these contain a protein called avidin which combines with the active ingredient in Diathynil, rendering it inactive.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very rare cases of intolerance with skin redness or urticaria-like manifestations have been reported.
