Benzalkonium chloride

What it is and what it is used for
DISINTYL contains the active ingredient benzalkonium chloride, which belongs to a group of medicines called antiseptics and disinfectants that reduce or block the growth of bacteria.

DISINTYL is indicated for disinfecting the skin in cases of non-severe injuries (small superficial wounds, abrasions). This medicine is also indicated for disinfecting the external genitalia.

Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days of treatment.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use DISINTYL
- if you are allergic to benzalkonium chloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using DISINTYL.

This medicine should only be applied to the skin (external use).

Do not apply DISINTYL to the eyes or the inside of the ear (middle ear).
Furthermore, this medicine must not come into contact with the brain, the membranes covering the brain (meninges) and severely damaged skin.

Do not swallow or inhale DISINTYL as serious, even fatal, consequences may occur.

After applying this medicine to the skin, avoid exposure to the sun or sunlamps (artificial sources of ultraviolet rays).

Do not use this medicine for prolonged treatments. After a short period of treatment, if you do not notice results, consult your doctor. If you use DISINTYL, especially for long periods of time, allergic reactions (sensitization phenomena) may occur. In this case, stop the treatment and inform your doctor, who will establish an appropriate therapy.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Cases of intolerance may occur with symptoms such as burning or irritation of the skin. These symptoms usually do not require changes in treatment.

The product is toxic when applied in the ear and can damage the membrane lining the eye.
