Fluifort 2.7 g/10 ml syrup
Carbocysteine lysine salt monohydrate
What it is and what it is used for
Fluifort contains the active ingredient carbocysteine lysine salt monohydrate, which belongs to a group of medicines for cough and cold called mucolytics, used to facilitate the elimination of mucus from the respiratory tract.
This medicine is indicated for the treatment of cough and acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take Fluifort
- if you are allergic to carbocysteine lysine salt monohydrate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you suffer from gastroduodenal ulcer, a problem that can affect the stomach or the first part of the intestine;
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see section "Pregnancy and breastfeeding");
Do not administer this medicine to children under 11 years of age (see section "Children").
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fluifort.
No phenomena of reduced efficacy of the medicine after prolonged treatment or phenomena of dependence (need to continue taking the medicine) with the use of Fluifort are known.
Caution is recommended in elderly patients, asthmatic patients with a history of severe respiratory problems, debilitated patients, those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers or those taking medicines known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. You must stop treatment with carbocysteine in case of gastrointestinal bleeding. This medicine should not be used in association with cough suppressants and/or medicines that inhibit bronchial secretion.
Consult your doctor if the problem occurs repeatedly or if you notice any recent change in its characteristics.
Fluifort does not affect weight, so you can take it if you are following a low-calorie diet (hypocaloric) or if you suffer from diabetes.
This medicine does not contain aspartame, so you can take it if you suffer from phenylketonuria, a disease characterized by a hereditary defect that causes the accumulation of the amino acid phenylalanine in the body.
The medicine does not contain gluten, so it can be used if you suffer from celiac disease.
Children
Fluifort should not be taken by children under 11 years of age (see section "Do not take Fluifort").
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Frequency not known (cannot be estimated from the available data):
- skin irritations and diseases (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome; bullous dermatitis; erythema multiforme; toxic skin eruption). (In such cases, stop treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy).
- gastrointestinal bleeding (In such cases, stop treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy).
- skin manifestations (rash, urticaria, erythema, dermatitis), with the presence of spots, vesicles or blisters (exanthema, bullous exanthema/erythema), itching, swelling due to fluid accumulation around the eyes, mouth, tongue and throat, with possible breathing difficulties (angioedema).
- abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea.
- dizziness.
- difficulty breathing (dyspnoea).
- redness.
