LENOTAC 14 mg medicated plaster

What it is and what it is used for
LENOTAC is a medicated plaster based on piroxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with a strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic action. The pharmacological effects are mainly due to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthetase.
The activity of the active ingredient administered topically in various models of acute and chronic inflammation is manifested even in the presence of reduced plasma levels.

LENOTAC is indicated for the treatment of painful and inflammatory conditions of rheumatic and traumatic origin affecting joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
WHEN NOT TO USE:
- hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients;
- on open wounds or lesions;
- avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes;
- in case of a history of hypersensitivity reaction (asthma, allergic rhinitis, skin rashes and anaphylactic reactions) or gastrointestinal bleeding from anti-inflammatory drugs;
- in the presence of active peptic ulcer, in patients with bronchial asthma or on anticoagulant therapy;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- children under 12 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Analgesics, antipyretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including piroxicam, can cause hypersensitivity reactions, potentially severe even in subjects not previously exposed to this type of drug.
LENOTAC should be used with great caution and under medical prescription in the elderly, in subjects with chronic bronchitis, allergic rhinitis or inflammation of the nasal mucosa (in whom asthmatic attacks or severe inflammatory skin and mucosal reactions are more frequent), in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases (such as gastrointestinal ulcer, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding not secondary to NSAID administration or with other bleeding disorders, with hepatic or renal dysfunction or with heart failure.
To avoid any hypersensitivity or photosensitization phenomena, avoid exposure to direct sunlight. If you develop a skin rash or skin symptoms, you must immediately stop taking LENOTAC, immediately contact a doctor and inform them that you are taking this medicine.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, LENOTAC medicated plaster can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The use of LENOTAC may lead to the appearance of allergic skin reactions, erythema, itching, irritation, burning, contact dermatitis, numbness and tingling at the application site; with this type of medicine, cases of extensive and severe dermatological lesions such as urticaria, Quincke's edema, erythema multiforme have been reported.
Photosensitivity skin reactions and more extensive and severe reactions, including asthma attacks, are possible.
Systemic adverse reactions following topical use of piroxicam are unlikely; since the plasma levels obtained are lower than those measured after systemic administration but highly variable from individual to individual, it is not possible to exclude, especially in the case of prolonged therapies beyond the recommended term and non-observance of contraindications and warnings, the appearance of systemic adverse effects, especially at the gastrointestinal level.
Frequency not known: fixed drug eruption (may appear as round or oval patches of redness and swelling of the skin), blisters (hives), itching. In case of local or general adverse effects, it is necessary to interrupt the treatment and consult the doctor to establish an appropriate therapy.

Adhering to the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.

The described side effects are generally transient. However, if they occur, it is advisable to consult your Doctor or Pharmacist.
