What it is and what it is used for
Lipovisc is a whitish, highly viscous gel that contains a lubricant used as a substitute for natural tears. Normally, the eyes produce enough tear fluid to allow them to move smoothly and comfortably. If the eyes do not produce enough tears, they can become dry, red, and painful.
Lipovisc can help prevent discomfort.
Lipovisc is a highly viscous gel that forms a protective film on the eye, keeping its surface moist.
It is easy and practical to use, and is particularly suitable for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome.

Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Lipovisc:
if you are allergic to Carbomer or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Children and adolescents up to 18 years of age
In children and adolescents, the safety and efficacy of Lipovisc, at the recommended dosage for adults, have been established based on clinical experience, but no clinical studies are available.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

You may experience a slight burning sensation in your eyes after application, with blurred vision. These effects will disappear within a few minutes.
Some cases of allergy (hypersensitivity) have been reported following the use of Lipovisc (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 subjects) due to one of the ingredients.
Other rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 subjects) were: sticky eyelids, conjunctivitis (redness of the eyes), appearance of spots (or points) on the cornea (the surface of the eye), swollen eyes, burning, itching, and irritation of the eye.
If any of the side effects worsen, or if you notice any side effect not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
