Mepilex
Description
Foam dressing with a soft silicone contact layer.
Mepilex is a highly conformable dressing that absorbs exudate, maintains a moist environment, and minimizes the risk of maceration. The dressing features a contact layer based on the exclusive Safetac technology, which minimizes patient pain and trauma to the wound and periwound skin when the dressing is removed.
Mepilex is indicated for a wide range of exuding wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, and traumatic wounds, such as skin tears and secondary surgical wounds. Mepilex can be used to protect compromised and/or delicate skin and can also be used as part of a skin injury prevention protocol, for example in cases of pressure ulcers.
Instructions for use
Mepilex can be used by non-expert individuals under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
1. Cleanse the wound according to standard clinical protocols.
2. Carefully dry the periwound skin.
3. Select the appropriate dressing size. Mepilex should overlap the periwound skin by at least 1-2 cm for small sizes (up to 12.5 x 12.5 cm).
and by at least 3-5 cm for larger sizes, to protect the periwound skin from maceration and secure the dressing safely.
If necessary, Mepilex can be cut to fit different shapes and anatomical areas.
4. Remove the first protective film and apply the adhesive side to the wound.
5. Remove the remaining film and smooth the dressing over the skin.
Do not stretch the dressing.
6. When necessary, secure Mepilex with a bandage or another type of fixation.
The dressing can be changed after several days. Replace the dressing before it is completely saturated, if leakage occurs, or as indicated by clinical protocol.
Mepilex can be used under compression bandages and in conjunction with gels.
Disposal should be carried out in accordance with local environmental protection procedures.
Components
Mepilex consists of:
- a soft silicone contact layer (Safetac);
- a flexible and absorbent polyurethane foam pad;
- a breathable yet water-impermeable outer polyurethane film.
Warnings
• Do not use on patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its components.
