Normalene 5 mg coated tablets
Bisacodyl

What it is and what it is used for
Contact laxative.

NORMALENE coated tablets are used for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Laxatives are contraindicated in subjects with acute or unknown origin abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, intestinal obstruction or stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, severe dehydration.
Do not administer to children under two years of age.

Warnings and precautions
During pregnancy and breastfeeding (see What to do during pregnancy and breastfeeding).
If your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to certain sugars, contact them before taking this medicine.

The treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of a doctor for diagnosis, prescription of medicines and monitoring during therapy.
Consult your doctor when the need for a laxative arises from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of bowel movements) that has lasted for more than two weeks or when the use of a laxative fails to produce effects.
It is also advisable for elderly people or those in poor health to consult their doctor before using the medicine.
Bisacodyl should be administered with caution in patients with rectal inflammation and hemorrhoidal manifestations.
This medicine contains 0.4 mg of sorbitol per tablet, equivalent to 0.4 mg per 100 mg.
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to some sugars, or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disorder in which patients cannot process fructose, talk to your doctor before you (or your child) take this medicine.
This medicine contains 11.3 mg of sucrose per tablet. This should be taken into account in people with diabetes mellitus.

Possible side effects
Occasionally: isolated cramping pains or abdominal colic, more frequent in cases of severe constipation.
Adhering to the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
These side effects are generally transient. If they occur, however, it is advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist.
It is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any side effects not described in the package leaflet.
Request and complete the Adverse Effects reporting form available at the pharmacy.
