NOVAPHERGAN 20 mg/g cream
Promethazine
What it is and what it is used for
This medicine contains the active ingredient promethazine, belonging to the group of medicines called antihistamines.
NOVAPHERGAN works by relieving symptoms of skin irritation (itching, redness, burning), and is used to treat irritations caused by insect bites or excessive sun exposure (sunburn).
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use NOVAPHERGAN
- if you are allergic to promethazine, to other chemically similar substances to promethazine or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you suffer, or have suffered in the past, from a skin disease that manifests with inflammation (eczema);
- if you have open and oozing wounds (weeping lesions);
- if the patient is a child under 2 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using NOVAPHERGAN.
If you use the product for prolonged periods or for a different use than reported in this leaflet, you may experience irritation (allergic sensitization phenomena) which worsens your condition. If this occurs, stop treatment with this medicine and inform your doctor who will suggest an alternative therapy.
Do not apply this medicine to healing lesions for more than 3-4 days.
If you are using NOVAPHERGAN to treat sunburn (solar erythema), avoid exposing the irritated area to the sun.
Stop treatment with this medicine if you notice the appearance of small pimples (skin rash), irritation, and burning.
Children
This medicine should not be used in children under 2 years of age.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
- allergic reactions;
- increased sensitivity of the skin to light (photosensitivity);
- drowsiness, if high doses of this medicine are applied to very large areas of the skin.
