Octosedan 50 mg/g rectal ointment
Lidocaine
What it is and what it is used for
Octosedan contains lidocaine, an anesthetic, and is indicated for the short-term treatment of itching and pain in the anal region caused by haemorrhoidal disorders.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Octosedan:
- if you are allergic to lidocaine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Octosedan.
The product must be used with extreme caution in cases of severely damaged mucous membranes and inflammation in the region to be treated, as, in such situations, excessive absorption of the active ingredient could occur.
Caution should also be used in cases of infection in the area of application and in cases of diabetes.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects have been reported:
Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people)
Allergic reactions at the application site, for example itching and burning
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
Diarrhea
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
Discomfort and erythema (skin redness) at the application site.
