What it is and what it is used for
TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray contains the active ingredient naphazoline, which belongs to a group of medicines called decongestants and acts as a vasoconstrictor on the venous blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, i.e., by reducing the size of the blood vessels in the nose.

TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray is indicated to relieve a blocked nose (nasal decongestant) in cases of:
• acute inflammation of the internal lining of the nose and throat with catarrh (acute catarrhal rhinitis and pharyngitis);
• inflammation of the internal lining of the nose due to allergies (allergic rhinitis);
• acute inflammation of the internal parts (mucosa) of the cavities located in the skull bones near the nasal fossae (acute sinusitis).

Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days of treatment.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray
- if you are allergic to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6);
- if you suffer from severe heart disease and your blood pressure is very high (severe arterial hypertension);
- if you have a disease due to high pressure inside the eye (glaucoma);
- if you suffer from an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism);
- if you are taking medicines used to treat depression or have stopped using them less than two weeks ago (see Other medicines and TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray);
- if it is for a child under 12 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray:
- if you are elderly;
- if you have an enlarged prostate gland (prostatic hypertrophy), as there may be a risk of urinary retention in your bladder;
- if you have heart and blood vessel diseases (cardiovascular), especially if you have high blood pressure, the use of the medicine will be evaluated by your doctor on a case-by-case basis;
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see Pregnancy and breastfeeding).

Continuous use of medicines to relieve a blocked nose can alter the normal function of the internal lining (mucosa) of the nose and adjacent bony cavities (paranasal sinuses) and can also lead to habituation (tolerance) to the medicine, making it no longer effective. Long-term use can be harmful.
The use, especially prolonged, of topical medicines can lead to allergic phenomena (sensitization); in such cases, it is necessary to discontinue treatment and, if necessary, consult a doctor to adopt an appropriate therapy.
Stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor immediately in case of sudden onset of severe headache.

Children and adolescents
TANTUM VERDE NASO CHIUSO nasal spray is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The medicine may cause a worsening of the sensation of nasal obstruction, irritation, and swelling of the blood vessels of the internal lining of the nose (rebound phenomena of sensitization and mucosal congestion).
Rapid absorption of the medicine through the inflamed internal lining of the nose (mucosa) can lead to effects involving the whole body (systemic):
- increase in blood pressure (arterial hypertension);
- slowing of heart rate (reflex bradycardia);
- headache;
- urinary problems.
