COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico 0.8 mg/ml + 1 mg/ml eye drops, solution
Naphazoline nitrate and tonzylamine hydrochloride
What it is and what it is used for
COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico contains the active ingredients naphazoline nitrate, which belongs to the group of decongestants for inflamed ocular mucosa, and tonzylamine hydrochloride, which belongs to the group of antiallergics and relieves ocular inflammation caused by allergies.
COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico is therefore useful in cases of allergy and inflammation of the mucous membrane covering the eyeball and the inner part of the eyelids (conjunctiva), accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), lacrimation, and the sensation of foreign bodies in the eye.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico
- if you are allergic to naphazoline nitrate, tonzylamine hydrochloride, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have a form of glaucoma called closed-angle glaucoma (an eye disease with increased pressure inside the eye) or other severe eye diseases;
- in children under twelve years of age;
- if you are simultaneously using antidepressant medications (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) (see also Other medicines and COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico);
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use only if absolutely necessary and under direct medical supervision (see also Pregnancy and breastfeeding).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico.
The eye drop solution should be used with caution if you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension), increased thyroid function (hyperthyroidism), heart problems, bronchial asthma, and hyperglycemia (diabetes).
Medical intervention is required in cases of eye infections, presence of pus, foreign bodies in the eye, mechanical, chemical, or heat damage.
The eye drops should always be kept out of sight and reach of children as accidental ingestion can cause central nervous system depression characterized by marked sedation or muscle weakness (hypotonia).
Children and adolescents
Do not use in children under twelve years of age.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The use of COLLIRIO ALFA Antistaminico may sometimes cause pupil dilation, high blood pressure (hypertension), heart problems, diabetes (hyperglycemia), increased eye pressure, nausea, headache.
Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
If the side effects described above occur, treatment should be stopped, and a doctor should be consulted so that, if necessary, appropriate therapy can be initiated.
If any side effects not described in this leaflet occur, it is advisable to report them to your doctor or pharmacist.
