ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO 2% cream
Promethazine hydrochloride

What it is and what it is used for
ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO contains the active ingredient Promethazine hydrochloride and belongs to the group of antihistamine medicines for topical (local) use.

ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO is used for the local symptomatic treatment of insect bites and other localised skin irritations such as redness, burning, itching, and sunburn.

Consult your doctor if you do not notice any improvement or if your symptoms worsen.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO
- if you are allergic to promethazine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you have skin inflammation characterised by itching, redness and swelling (eczema)
- if you have weeping lesions, i.e. lesions that produce serum or pus.
- In children under 2 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO.

Prolonged and inappropriate use of the medicine may lead to allergic sensitisation phenomena with consequent worsening of symptoms. Should this occur, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor in order to establish appropriate therapy.
Since the application of ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO 2% cream may delay the healing process, do not use this medicine for more than 3-4 consecutive days on lesions where this phenomenon is occurring.
In the case of sunburn, apply the medicine and avoid further exposure of the irritated skin to the sun.
If skin rashes (appearance of red spots on the skin), irritation and burning occur, discontinue treatment.

Children
Do not use the medicine in children under 2 years of age.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

ALONTAN ANTISTAMINICO 2% cream may cause allergic reactions.
The use of promethazine has been associated with photosensitivity reactions (increased sensitivity to light).
Abundant application of the medicine on very large areas of the skin may cause drowsiness.
