What it is and what it is used for
ACICLOVIR ALMUS PHARMA is a specific and selective antiviral drug active against herpes viruses, including the herpes simplex virus.
ACICLOVIR ALMUS PHARMA is used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the lips (recurrent labial herpes) in adults and adolescents (over 12 years of age).
What you need to know before taking the medicine
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
If you are allergic to valaciclovir.
Children under 12 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
The cream should only be applied to herpes simplex lesions on the lips; application to mucous membranes, such as those of the mouth, eyes and nose, is not recommended as it may cause irritation.
Do not use the medicine for the treatment of genital herpes.
Particular care must be taken to avoid accidental application to the eyes.
The use of the product, especially if prolonged, may lead to sensitisation; if this occurs, stop treatment and consult your doctor.
It is recommended that people with particularly severe forms of recurrent labial herpes consult their doctor.
It is recommended that those suffering from labial herpes avoid transmitting the virus, especially when active lesions are present.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.
The following convention has been used for classifying side effects in terms of frequency: very common =1/10, common =1/100 and <1/10, uncommon =1/1000 and <1/100, rare =1/10,000 and < 1/1000, very rare <1/10,000.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders
Uncommon: transient burning or pain after application, moderate dryness, skin peeling and itching
Rare: erythema, contact dermatitis following application. Where sensitivity tests have been conducted, it has been shown that reactivity phenomena were related to the components of the cream rather than to aciclovir.
Immune system disorders
Very rare: immediate hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema and urticaria
