What it is and what it is used for
MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE is a saline (electrolyte) solution for injection into a vein. This medicine contains the active ingredient sodium chloride.
MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE is indicated to replenish the body with fluids, sodium, and chloride

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE
- if blood sodium levels are high (hypernatremia);
- if you have excess salts in your body (hydrosaline plethora).

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or nurse before using MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE

This medicine should be administered with caution in the following cases:
- if you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension);
- if you have heart problems (heart failure);
- if you have fluid accumulation in your legs or ankles (peripheral edema) or in your lungs (pulmonary edema);
- if your kidneys are not functioning well (reduced kidney function);
- if you are pregnant and suffer from a condition called pre-eclampsia characterized by high blood pressure, swelling due to fluid accumulation, and protein in the urine;
- if you suffer from other conditions that occur when the body retains a lot of sodium (sodium retention).

This medicine should be administered with great caution if you are in one of the following conditions:
- if your heart is not functioning well (congestive heart failure);
- if you have severe kidney problems (severe renal failure);
- if you have fluid accumulation (edema) and your body retains salts (salt retention);
- if you are taking medicines used to treat inflammation (corticosteroids) or medicines that stimulate the production of steroid hormones (corticotropinics) (see the section Other medicines and MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE).

In case of prolonged treatment, potassium should also be administered to prevent blood potassium levels from dropping (hypokalemia).
During treatment, the amount of fluids in the body, the salts present in the blood (plasma osmolarity), and the regulation of acidic substances in the blood (acid-base balance) should be monitored.

MONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE should be used once immediately after opening the container, and any unused residual medicine should be discarded. The solution should be clear, colorless, and free of visible particles.
This medicine should be injected cautiously and slowly into a vein.

Children
This medicine should be administered with caution to children.
