ACIDO BORICO NA 30 mg/ml cutaneous solution
Boric acid

What it is and what it is used for
ACIDO BORICO NA contains the active ingredient boric acid, which belongs to a group of medicines called antiseptics and disinfectants that slow down or prevent bacterial growth.

This medicine is indicated for:
- disinfecting minor burns and irritated or chapped skin areas;
- reducing swelling caused by fluid retention (decongestant);
- treating an inflammatory skin condition (acne).

Consult your doctor if you do not notice any improvement or if your symptoms worsen after a few days.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use ACIDO BORICO NA
- if you are allergic to boric acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have very extensive skin lesions;
- in children under 3 years of age (See the section Children).

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using ACIDO BORICO NA.

This medicine must not be applied to the eyes.

Keep the medicine out of reach of children, as it can cause death if swallowed.

Avoid applying the product for prolonged periods and in excessive doses, on very extensive skin areas or on wounds (damaged skin), as toxic effects may occur due to the accumulation of the medicine (See the section Possible side effects).

Children
The use of this medicine is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects may occur following inappropriate use of the medicine (systemic route) or the application of boric acid to wounds and lesions:

Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
- skin irritations (dermatitis, skin rashes), hair loss (alopecia);
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea;
- loss of appetite (anorexia);
- menstrual cycle disorders;
- reduction in the number of red blood cells in the blood (anaemia);
- weakness;
- confusion;
- seizures.

Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
