Salicylic acid
What it is and what it is used for
SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI contains the active ingredient salicylic acid, which belongs to the group of medicines called keratolytics that destroy excess keratin.
This medicine is indicated in adults and children for:
- the treatment of psoriasis, acne vulgaris, seborrhoea;
- the removal of warts and calluses.
In adults, SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI is also indicated for the treatment of skin problems such as eczema and ichthyosis.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI:
- if you are allergic to salicylic acid, salicylates or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6);
- if the patient is a child under 2 years of age;
- if you suffer from diabetes;
- if you suffer from vein diseases (peripheral vasculopathy).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI.
Do not ingest the medicine and avoid putting SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI in contact with the mouth, eyes, genitals and other mucous membranes.
SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI is irritating and can cause skin inflammation (dermatitis).
If you use this medicine for the treatment of calluses and warts, protect the healthy skin around the area to be treated.
Avoid using SALICYLIC ACID MARCO VITI:
- for long periods of time;
- in high quantities;
- on extensive areas of the body;
- on damaged or inflamed skin.
An excessive amount of the medicine can cause very serious adverse reactions, especially in children, (systemic salicylate poisoning) which can be fatal.
Children
This medicine must be administered with caution in children and under medical supervision.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
- decrease in blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia);
- irritation and inflammation of the skin (dermatitis, erythema, burning, itching, skin peeling), facial scars.
