What it is and what it is used for
BROMHEXINE PENSA contains the active ingredient bromhexine, which belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics used to facilitate the elimination of mucus from the respiratory tract.
BROMHEXINE PENSA is therefore indicated in the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases (such as bronchitis) in the presence of cough and phlegm. Consult your doctor if you do not notice improvements or if you notice a worsening of symptoms after a short period.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take BROMHEXINE PENSA
- if you are allergic to bromhexine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you suffer from stomach or intestinal ulcers;
- if you are breastfeeding (see section Pregnancy and breastfeeding);
- if the person who needs to take the medicine is a child under 2 years of age (see section Children).

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking BROMHEXINE PENSA.

Avoid taking this medicine for prolonged periods. After a short period of treatment without noticeable results, consult your doctor.

Cases of severe skin reactions associated with bromhexine administration have been reported. If you develop a skin rash (including lesions of mucous membranes such as the mouth, throat, nose, eyes, genitals), stop taking BROMHEXINE PENSA and contact your doctor immediately.

Treatment with BROMHEXINE PENSA leads to an increase in bronchial secretion, facilitating its elimination.

Children
BROMHEXINE PENSA is contraindicated in children under 2 years of age because it can cause bronchial obstruction.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Side effects reported with the use of BROMHEXINE PENSA include:
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
- hypersensitivity reactions;
- rash, urticaria.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
- Anaphylactic reactions, including anaphylactic shock, angioedema (rapidly developing swelling of the skin, subcutaneous tissues, mucous membranes and submucosal tissues) and itching;
- Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (including erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis).

Cases of diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, other mild gastrointestinal disorders, bronchospasm and bronchial obstruction have also been reported.
