COCARNITIN B12 500 mg/2 mg powder and solvent for oral suspension
L-Carnitine/Cobamamide
What it is and what it is used for
CoCarnitin B12 contains two active ingredients normally present in the human body, L-Carnitine and Cobamamide (Vitamin B12).
These two substances restore the metabolism of fats, proteins, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), promoting energy production in cells.
The substances in CoCarnitin B12 also increase protein production and protein content in muscles and blood, stimulate appetite and body growth, and improve the overall nutritional state, particularly in malnourished individuals.
CoCarnitin B12 is indicated in cases of:
• weight loss caused by diseases of any kind;
• unexplained thinness;
• reduced appetite (anorexia);
• weakness (asthenia);
• convalescence;
• excessive degradation of proteins, fats, and sugars (as an anticatabolic):
- in long-term corticosteroid therapies,
- in thyrotoxicosis, a disease caused by an overactive thyroid,
- in situations where the blood contains a low amount of proteins (hypoproteinemia) due to liver or kidney diseases.
In children and adolescents, CoCarnitin B12 is indicated in cases of:
• states of malnutrition of any type in children, infants, and premature infants;
• growth retardation;
• insufficient weight;
• alterations in the nutritional state of a tissue, organ, or the entire organism (dystrophies);
• absence or reduction of appetite;
• weight loss due to any cause;
• states of debility after an infection.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take CoCarnitin B12
• if you are allergic to L-Carnitine, Cobamamide, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking CoCarnitin B12.
Tell your doctor if you have anemia, because your doctor will need to determine the exact nature of your anemia before you can take CoCarnitin B12.
Tell your doctor, who will monitor you closely if you have a predisposition to seizures, because treatment with L-Carnitine, one of the active ingredients of CoCarnitin B12, could trigger them; if you already suffer from seizures, L-Carnitine administration could increase the number and/or severity of seizure episodes.
Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney problems (severe renal insufficiency or end-stage renal failure).
In these cases, your doctor will monitor your kidney function during treatment, especially if it is prolonged (see section "How to take CoCarnitin B12").
The characteristics of CoCarnitin B12 may be altered by exposure to light, so prepare the solution and take it immediately afterwards. Any mixing of the solution in liquids or other foods should also take place immediately before administration.
