CORYFIN SEDATIVO FLUIDIFICANTE 20 mg/g + 1 mg/g syrup
Potassium sulfoguaiacolate + dextromethorphan hydrobromide
What it is and what it is used for
Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante contains dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a cough suppressant, and potassium sulfoguaiacolate, an expectorant.
This medicine is indicated for the treatment of cough symptoms.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
This medicine can lead to dependence. Therefore, treatment should be short-term.
Do not use Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante
- if you are allergic to dextromethorphan or potassium sulfoguaiacolate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you are taking or have taken antidepressants (medicines used for depression) up to 2 weeks before (see "Other medicines and Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante");
- if you suffer from asthma (constriction and inflammation of the bronchi);
- if you suffer from a respiratory disease characterized by bronchial obstruction and inflammation of the bronchi and lungs (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease);
- if you have a lung infection (pneumonia);
- if you have breathing problems (difficulty or depression of breathing);
- if you suffer from heart or blood vessel problems (cardiovascular diseases);
- if you have high blood pressure (hypertension);
- if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism);
- if you suffer from a disease that causes increased eye pressure and vision problems (glaucoma);
- if you have an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy);
- if you have narrowing of the stomach or intestine (gastrointestinal stenosis);
- if you suffer from narrowing of the urinary or genital tracts (urogenital stenosis);
- if you suffer from a disease that causes loss of consciousness and violent involuntary muscle contractions (epilepsy);
- if you suffer from severe liver diseases;
- if you are pregnant, especially in the first trimester, or are breastfeeding (see "Pregnancy and breastfeeding");
- if the child to be treated is under two years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante:
- if you have a history of drug or narcotic abuse (psychoactive substances capable of altering the psycho-physical state);
- if the subject to be treated is an adolescent or young adult;
- if you have a chronic or persistent cough (due for example to smoking and some respiratory diseases such as emphysema/asthma);
- if the cough is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, rash, headache, nausea and vomiting;
- if your cough is irritating with abundant mucus production;
- if you suffer from liver or kidney problems;
- if you are taking medicines containing buprenorphine. The use of these medicines together with Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante can lead to serotonin syndrome, a condition that can cause death (see "Other medicines and Coryfin Sedativo Fluidificante").
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur with unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data) with the use of this medicine:
• allergic reactions (hypersensitivity) including anaphylactic reaction (a severe, rapidly appearing allergic reaction that can cause death), angioedema (swelling of the skin or mucous membranes), urticaria, itching, rash and erythema (redness of the skin);
• hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that do not exist);
• drowsiness, dizziness;
• gastrointestinal disorders (stomach and intestinal disorders), nausea, vomiting and reduced appetite;
• fatigue, fever.
