Flaminal hydro
Description
Enzymatic alginogel, a new class of wound dressings. Flaminal hydro covers and protects the wound. Enzymatic alginogels combine a unique set of physicochemical properties that promote moist healing of wounds of various origins, promote continuous wound debridement and protect wound edges, along with antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, which can significantly slow down the wound healing process.
Instructions for use
1. Before applying Flaminal (hydro or forte), cleaning the wound and the surrounding area is recommended.
2. Cover the entire wound bed with a sufficiently thick layer (e.g. 4-5 mm) of Flaminal hydro or, in the case of moderately or heavily exuding wounds, Flaminal forte.
Flaminal (hydro or forte) can be applied in the following ways, for example directly from the tube, directly onto the dressing, with a spatula, with a nozzle or with a syringe.
3. Cover Flaminal (hydro or forte) with a dressing. The choice of dressing should be based on the type of wound.
Slightly to moderately exuding wound: transparent film (polyurethane) or non-adherent dressing secured with a non-adherent bandage, e.g. paraffin gauze.
Moderately to heavily exuding: non-adherent absorbent dressing secured with a non-adherent bandage or hypoallergenic adhesive tape.
4. Check the dressing daily.
The dressing with Flaminal (Hydro or Forte) can remain in place as long as the gel structure is intact (1 to 4 days, depending on the amount of exudate).
In case of leakage or insufficient gel, Flaminal (Hydro and Forte) should be changed and a new dressing applied.
5. With each dressing change/wound cleaning:
• clean the wound and the surrounding area thoroughly;
• remove all whitish alginate scales from the wound and leave only those on the wound edge. The scales prevent weakening of the wound edge and maceration (softening and breakdown of the skin due to prolonged exposure to moisture). Maceration slows down the wound healing process.
Components
Alginate [total alginate content 3.5% (w/w)], macrogol, hydroxypropylcellulose, enzyme system (glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase, glucose, guaiacol), potassium sorbate, potassium iodide, buffer, purified water Ph. Eur.
Warnings
Do not use Flaminal (hydro or forte) in case of known allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.
For external use only.
The first time a patient is treated for wounds that may reach bone and joint level or with exposed bone and joints, the patient should be kept under observation for at least 30 minutes after administration of Flaminal (Hydro or Forte).
Some wounds may require complementary treatment. Consult a doctor or wound care specialist.
Flaminal (Hydro and Forte) can be used on infected wounds only under medical supervision.
The gel has a slight odor caused by alginates. This odor does not affect the healing process. In case of a sudden and distinct odor, consult a doctor or wound care specialist.
Flaminal (Hydro and Forte) cannot be used on eyelids or in eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with running water and consult a doctor.
Do not use the product if it is damaged or unintentionally opened before use.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 25 °C) in a dry place and in the original packaging.
Shelf life of intact packaging: 24 months.
Shelf life after opening: 12 months.
