Askina
Barrier Film

Description
Medical device.
Silicone-based spray that creates a protective film for peristomal and perilesional skin. Alcohol-free, it can be used on broken or damaged skin without causing burning or discomfort.
The film is transparent (to allow visual inspection of the skin) and permeable to oxygen and moisture.

Components
Disiloxane: 93%, acrylic copolymer: 7%.

Directions for use
Applying the product is very simple and does not require special skills or equipment. The duration of application depends on the frequency of cleaning and changes of the secondary dressing or ostomy appliance. For skin that is frequently cleaned, daily application may be necessary, but this frequency can be reduced to 2-3 days in less frequently treated areas.

Skin preparation:

- clean the skin with sterile physiological saline solution or an appropriate cleansing solution, and sterile wipes;
- dry the skin thoroughly before applying the spray;

Dressing application:

- remove the cap. Hold the spray nozzle 10-15 cm from the skin and press to apply an even layer of film to the area of interest. Allow to dry for 30 seconds. If necessary, repeat the application on any areas not adequately covered;
- if the protective solution is applied to an area with skin folds or skin-to-skin contact, gently spread the folds to apply the film and wait for it to dry before allowing the skin to return to its normal position;
- recap the spray nozzle when the product is not in use.

Dressing change:

- The protective film can be removed using most medical adhesive removers. Follow the manufacturer's instructions;
- apply a new layer of product following the procedure outlined above.

Warnings
Do not use if the skin around the ulcer is infected due to tuberculosis, syphilis, deep fungal infections, or third-degree burns.
If symptoms of infection (fever, swelling, or redness) develop or if the skin deteriorates unexpectedly, seek medical attention.
Resume use of the protective film when conditions return to normal.
The protective film should not be used on infected skin.
