Macrogol 4000
Description
Medical device.
Symptomatic treatment of constipation. It promotes peristalsis, helping to achieve adequate bowel evacuation, thus combating constipation and preventing the formation of fecal impaction.
Macrogol is an inert, water-soluble, high molecular weight polymer that has the ability to bind to the water used for consumption, retaining it in the feces. It rehydrates and softens the fecal mass and facilitates its evacuation. It accelerates intestinal transit, promoting peristalsis. It is not absorbed or metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract and does not lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance if taken with the indicated dose of liquid.
Suitable for diabetics.
Sugar-free.
Directions for use
Indicated for adults and children over 12 years of age:
- 1 to 4 sachets per day.
The dose should be increased or decreased, depending on the individual response to treatment, to allow regular evacuation of soft stools.
The maximum necessary dose normally does not exceed 4 sachets per day.
Dissolve the powder in water or other liquid (125 ml for each sachet) and take immediately. It is recommended to administer the product in the morning if the minimum dose (1 sachet per day) is to be taken. For larger doses, divide the intake between morning and evening.
If no improvement is observed after 7 days of treatment, consult a doctor.
Ingredients
Macrogol, sucralose, orange flavor.
Gluten-free.
Lactose-free.
Warnings
Administration to children must be carried out under direct adult supervision.
Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
Do not use if the package is open or damaged.
The product may reduce the residence time in the intestine and therefore the absorption of oral medications. It is therefore advisable to consult a doctor if oral medications are being taken concurrently, which must in any case be administered at least 2 hours apart.
The product may cause a potential interaction effect when used with starch-based food thickeners. Macrogol counteracts the thickening effect of starch, liquefying preparations that should instead remain dense to allow consumption by people with swallowing problems.
In case of adverse reactions, discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Do not take in case of:
- known hypersensitivity to one or more components;
- paralytic ileus;
- intestinal perforation, obstruction or stenosis;
- severe inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, toxic megacolon).
The use of laxatives is contraindicated in cases of acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, and severe dehydration.
Some gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain, flatulence, abdominal bloating, nausea and fecal incontinence) may occur.
Diarrhea is a side effect of taking excessive doses of Normalene Macrogol 4000 – and can be avoided by decreasing the dose.
Rarely, cases of hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash) have been reported following the use of macrogol-containing products. In this case, discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.
