SALONPAS 36.06 mg/32.73mg/7.11mg medicated plasters 10 plasters
Methyl salicylate/levomenthol/dl-camphor
What it is and what it is used for
Salonpas contains the active ingredients methyl salicylate, levomenthol, and dl-camphor. Salonpas is used to reduce local pain.
Salonpas is indicated as an additional therapy in the treatment of:
• painful bone, joint, and muscle diseases;
• rheumatic muscle and joint pain;
• stiff neck;
• intercostal pain;
• muscle strains;
• pain after contusions and sprains.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 5-7 days of treatment, particularly if excessive redness appears, if the condition recurs repeatedly, or if you have noticed any recent change in its characteristics.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Salonpas:
• if you are allergic to methyl salicylate, levomenthol, dl-camphor, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6);
• if the patient is a child.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Salonpas.
Stop treatment with Salonpas and consult your doctor:
• if the pain persists for more than 5-7 days, particularly if excessive redness occurs;
• if you experience allergic reactions or other skin reactions, because the use of local products, especially if prolonged, can cause these reactions. In these cases, your doctor will prescribe appropriate therapy;
• if the skin becomes irritated.
Pay particular attention:
• do not apply the plaster to irritated skin areas;
• do not apply the plaster near the eyes and mucous membranes.
Treatment should not be prolonged for more than 3 days due to the risks associated with the accumulation of terpene derivatives, such as camphor, cineol, niaouli, wild thyme, terpineol, terpine, citral, menthol, and essential oils of pine needles, eucalyptus, and turpentine (due to their lipophilic properties, the rate of metabolism and elimination is unknown) in tissues and the brain, particularly neuropsychological disorders.
Children and adolescents
Salonpas should not be used in pediatric patients. This medicine contains terpene derivatives (levomenthol and dl-camphor) which, in excessive doses, can cause neurological disorders such as convulsions in infants and children.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects, generally transient, may occur with unknown frequency:
• skin irritation;
• allergic skin rashes;
• allergic skin inflammation due to contact with the medicine (contact dermatitis);
• burns at the application site.
Additional side effects in children and adolescents
Due to the presence of levomenthol and dl-camphor and if the recommended doses are not observed, there may be a risk of convulsions in children and infants (see also paragraphs "Do not use Salonpas" and "Warnings and precautions").
