Warnings and precautions
The treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of a doctor for diagnosis, prescription of medicines and monitoring during therapy. Consult your doctor when the need for a laxative results from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (characteristic frequency of bowel movements) that has lasted for more than 2 weeks, when constipation is stubborn and when the use of the laxative fails to produce effects.
Laxative abuse (frequent or prolonged use or with excessive doses) can cause persistent diarrhea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In more severe cases, dehydration or hypokalemia (decrease in blood potassium) may occur, which can cause cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunction, especially in the case of concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. Laxative abuse, especially contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (and, therefore, possible need to progressively increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of normal bowel functions (intestinal atony). First of all, it should be borne in mind that, in most cases, a balanced diet rich in water and fiber (bran, vegetables and fruit) can permanently solve the problem of constipation.
Many people think they suffer from constipation if they cannot have a bowel movement every day. This is an incorrect belief as this situation is completely normal for a large number of individuals. Instead, consider that constipation occurs when bowel movements are reduced compared to your personal habits and are associated with the passage of hard stools. If episodes of constipation occur repeatedly or if you have noticed any recent changes in their characteristics, a doctor should be consulted.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, KELEMATA HERBAL TEA can cause side effects. Adherence to the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects. Occasionally: isolated cramp-like pains or abdominal colic, more frequent in cases of severe constipation. With the use of the product, urine sometimes becomes slightly yellowish-brown or red. This coloration is simply due to the presence of senna components in the urine and is not clinically significant. Continuous use of laxatives can cause addiction or damage of various kinds.
These side effects are generally transient. However, if they occur, it is advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist. It is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any side effects not described in the package leaflet.
