Diethylammonium salicylate 100 mg - Heparin sodium 0.368 mg - Menthol 2 mg

What it is and what it is used for
Viamal Trauma is a medicine for local use, containing three active ingredients: diethylammonium salicylate, sodium heparin, and menthol.

Diethylammonium salicylate has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving action. Furthermore, by softening the skin, it facilitates the absorption of the other two active ingredients.
Heparin prevents blood clotting, rapidly reducing blood effusions and fluid accumulation in the superficial layers of the skin. In this way, heparin reduces swelling and the sensation of tension, and pain is alleviated.
Menthol enhances the effect of heparin, and has a mild local anesthetic action and a pleasant cooling effect.
Viamal Trauma is in gel form, and is rapidly absorbed through the skin and penetrates deep into the tissues.

Viamal Trauma is used in adults and children over 6 years of age for joint and muscle pain, as a support in the local treatment of traumas such as: contusions, sprains, hematomas (blood accumulation in tissues), muscle strains.

Consult your doctor if you/the child do not feel better or feel worse after 3 days.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use/give Viamal Trauma to the child
- if you and/or the child are allergic to diethylammonium salicylate, sodium heparin, and menthol or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6)
- if you and/or the child have kidney damage caused by previous illnesses and the area of the body to be treated is large
- if you and/or the child are also using other local preparations containing salicylates (anti-inflammatories), unless otherwise instructed by your doctor
- if you and/or the child have the flu or chickenpox
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see paragraph “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”)

Do not give Viamal Trauma:
- to infants and children under 6 years of age
- to children who have previously suffered from epilepsy or febrile seizures.

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using/giving Viamal Trauma to the child
Do not exceed 3 days of treatment as you/the child may experience undesirable effects on the brain due to the accumulation of terpenic substances, such as menthol and pine oil, contained in this medicine.
Do not use a dose higher than recommended to avoid a greater risk of adverse drug reactions and symptoms associated with overdose.
Do not use on broken skin (wounds, burns, irritated skin).
Avoid sun exposure of the treated area.
Do not use occlusive dressings (gauze or other material strips) or apply heat, as this may increase absorption through the skin.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
This medicine is flammable, so do not bring it near flames.

Children and adolescents
Do not give Viamal Trauma to infants, children under 6 years of age, and children who have previously suffered from epilepsy or febrile seizures (see paragraph "Do not use/give Viamal Trauma to the child") as neurological disorders may occur.

Improper use
In case of accidental oral intake, incorrect administration in newborns or children under six years of age or in children with a history of epilepsy or febrile seizures, neurological disorders may occur. In case of improper use, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you experience the following side effects, STOP treatment and consult your doctor immediately:
• allergic reactions
• prolonged vomiting
• profound drowsiness

Side effects with unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
• burns at the application site.

Additional side effects in children
Effects affecting the nervous system
• seizures. This effect may occur in children when the dose and duration of treatment recommended by the doctor are not followed.
