Menthol/camphor
What it is and what it is used for
Vicks Inhaler contains menthol and camphor, which have antiseptic and decongestant properties for the respiratory tract and clear stuffy noses.
Vicks inhaler is indicated for the treatment of colds and nasal congestion.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 3 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Vicks Inhaler
- if you are allergic to menthol, camphor or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6);
- in children up to 30 months of age;
- in children who suffer or have suffered from epilepsy or fever-induced seizures;
- during breastfeeding (see section Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Vicks Inhaler.
Pay particular attention:
- Do not prolong treatment for more than 3 days due to the risks associated with the accumulation of terpene derivatives (e.g., camphor, cineole, niaouli, wild thyme, terpineol, terpine, citral, menthol, and essential oils of pine needles, eucalyptus, and turpentine) in the body, including the brain, and in particular for the risks of neuropsychological disorders;
- Do not use this medicine for prolonged periods, as you may experience allergic reactions. In this case, stop the treatment and contact your doctor;
- The product is flammable, do not approach flames;
- Avoid contact with eyes.
The nasal stick must not be used by multiple people.
Children
Vicks Inhaler should not be used in children up to 30 months of age and is not recommended in children under 6 years of age. This medicine contains camphor and menthol which, in excessive doses, can induce neurological disorders such as convulsions in infants and children.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very rarely, cases of discomfort or pain in the nose have been reported.
