Ascorbic acid

What it is and what it is used for
VITAMIN C TEVA contains the active ingredient ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C. It belongs to the group of vitamins essential for humans. This medicine is indicated for vitamin C deficiency states (for example during pregnancy, breastfeeding or in cases of increased vitamin requirements).

Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days of use.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take VITAMIN C TEVA
- if you are allergic to ascorbic acid, similar substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in paragraph 6);
- if you suffer from diarrhoea or other stomach and intestinal disorders (gastrointestinal disorders).

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking VITAMIN C TEVA.

Take this medicine with caution and after consulting your doctor if you have high levels of a substance called calcium oxalate in your urine (hyperoxaluria).

If you have a deficiency of an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (an inherited condition that leads to a decrease in red blood cell count), or if you suffer or have suffered in the past from kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), hemochromatosis (a disease that leads to an accumulation of iron in the body), thalassemia or sideroblastic anaemia, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Do not take this medicine for prolonged treatments.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.

The following side effects may occur:
- diarrhoea;
- formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones;
- nausea;
- stomach cramps.

In predisposed individuals, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.

At dosages higher than recommended, headaches and gastrointestinal disorders may occur.
