What it is and what it is used for
ZYMAFLUOR contains the active ingredient sodium fluoride, which belongs to a group of medicines used to strengthen tooth enamel, promote its remineralization, and reduce acid production by bacteria present on the teeth (bacterial plaque).

This medicine is indicated for preventing tooth decay in cases where toothbrushing is difficult or as an adjunct to toothbrushing in individuals at high risk of developing cavities.

What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take ZYMAFLUOR
- if you are allergic to sodium fluoride (active ingredient) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
Before starting treatment with ZYMAFLUOR, be careful if you are taking fluoride from other sources to avoid an overdose (See section How to take ZYMAFLUOR).
If the table salt you use or your drinking water contains fluoride, reduce the dose of ZYMAFLUOR.
If the fluoride content in the water is greater than 0.7 mg per liter, ZYMAFLUOR is not recommended (See section How to take ZYMAFLUOR).
In particular, if you suffer from kidney problems (e.g., kidney damage), consult your doctor before taking Zymafluor.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects may occur with a rare frequency (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- mild skin irritations (erythema, rash, hives) which disappear quickly if you stop the treatment.

Also with unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
- hypersensitivity reactions (including gastrointestinal symptoms),
- dental fluorosis.

Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
